SPAM can be a real nuisance.  It can clutter our in-boxes, waste our time and even put our computers at risk for getting viruses.  If you're getting lots of SPAM messages in your email accounts hosted at OurChurch.Com, we share your concern and frustration.

Please understand that there is nothing we can do to prevent spammers from sending email to you.  There are some things that can be done to block spam messages, but note that most of these things have to be done by you (rather than OurChurch.Com).

Prevention

The best way to reduce SPAM is not to get your email address on spammers' lists.  Here are a few rules of thumb to prevent that.

1. Don't post email addresses on your website.  If you think it's absolutely necessary to post your email address on a web page, try to confuse the spam bots by writing something like "username (at) domain (dot) com" or encode the email address using a tool like this.
2. Don't post your email address on other websites.
3. Google your email address and try to get it removed from places where it's publicly displayed.
4. Be careful who you give your email address to.  Don't include your email address in a form unless you trust the site.

If you're already getting a lot of SPAM, it's still useful to take these steps to prevent yourself from getting even more. 

Blocking/Filtering

If your getting lots of SPAM, there are a few ways you can go about blocking/filtering it.

1. There's a SpamAssassin tool in your cPanel control panel which can be used to block/filter spam for all @yourdomain.com email accounts.
2. If you are using email software on your computer, like Outlook, there is spam filtering software can be installed on the computer.
3. Use Gmail for your email tool. Gmail can import @yourdomain.com email in the same way that Outlook does.  Email can be sent with a @yourdomain.com from address from Gmail. Gmail has a great spam filter that diverts more than 99% of spam into "spam" folder which you can still look through if you like.
